A new version of PeaZip has been released

Open source file and archive manager PeaZip, an application that can be used to extract, create, and convert multiple archives at once, has been upgraded to version 5.5.1 and is now available for download.

The Linux platform has no shortage of archiving solutions and most operating systems already have something implemented by default. For example, GNOME comes with File Roller and that particular alternative is present in numerous operating systems. PeaZip is just one such alternative, with a pretty interface and some cool features that make it rather different from what everyone else is doing.

That doesn't mean that PeaZip is not intuitive. In fact, it resembles pretty much all of the other major applications that you can find on this platform. To take things even further, PeaZip is also available on Windows, which says a lot about what type of application you are actually using.

Latest PeaZip has some pretty interesting features

The number of changes and improvements usually pushed for this application is impressive, as always. Despite the fact that the app has been around for many years, the developers still find important features to add. The same can be said about the latest 5.x branch of PeaZip.

"Release 5.5.0 introduced batch file rename functions, advanced selection with a dedicated dialog, and new function to copy selected path(s) as text; graphic files conversion functions and fit to screen pre-sets were also enhanced. Archive management features "Halt system after task completion" flag (Advanced options tab), and new option to remove single intermediate directory upon Extract to new folder operations."

"Among other updates, 5.5.1 revision improves identification of supported archive types (+ character in Information column) and known file types which can be handled as archives (. character), and adds new 'Update only' mode for Windows installer, to update application files and let unchanged the current system integration - file association, context and send to menus. 181 file extensions are now supported, after adding support for Microsoft's .mlc Language Interface Pack and .mui Multilingual User Interface package formats," reads the official website.

Users might have problems installing this application. It comes with a ton of dependencies and they are not present in all the available repositories. The developers also provide a portable version of the software, but they have the same problem. So, unless you have Arch Linux or something similar, odds are you won't be able to use it without some serious tinkering.

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official announcement. You can download PeaZip 5.5.1 right now from Softpedia.
