Japanese video games developer Compile Heart has announced that Omega Quintet will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony this April.

Omega Quintet is the first PS4 game from the maker of the acclaimed Hyperdimension Neptunia series, and was released in Japan in September last year.

Now, it's coming to the west, enabling a whole new range of users to enjoy its quirky gameplay mechanics.

The game focuses on a group of five young women who are masters at singing, and have to stop an evil entity from taking over the world by using their magnificent voices.

Players step into the role of Takt, the bodyguard and manager of the group, and have to build up the strength of each of Verse Maidens' members in strategic turn-based combat.

Each of the girls has her own special weapon to make use of during combat, and when taking combat, their costumes will break, drastically reducing the defense of your idol.

The game features a ton of battling, dancing and singing, and you can see the girls in action in the videos below, highlighting some of their best moves.

Far from your traditional role-playing game

In addition to the main gameplay segment, Omega Quintet also features a special PVS Mode where you can set up the choreography of Otoha, Kyouka, Kanadeko, Nene and Aria, preparing a special idol performance, including camera angles, outfits, and deciding who performs what.

Furthermore, Omega Quintet also supports the PlayStation Move controller, so if you own one, you'll have the perfect chance to use it.

The Japanese role-playing game / idol simulation game hybrid features oversexualized protagonists, so if you take offense at that, you'd be best served by skipping this one and picking up another JRPG to sate your thirst for weird niche games.

Omega Quintet is coming out on April 28 in North America and April 29 in Europe, available exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
