If you’re a cinephile, whether you hate it or not, you must have heard that the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie comes out on Valentine’s Day 2015. Most men wouldn’t see that if they were tied tighter than leading female Anastasia Grey, but they probably will, for their dates and girlfriends.

And they will probably hate every second of it.

Based on the adult novel of the same name by E.L. James and starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as leads, it’s the story of a man who can’t experience pleasure but through S&M practices and his virgin submissive.

The film will probably be less raunchy than the book, which is part of a trilogy that has proved an unexpected and huge hit with female readers, but it will still keep the main story from it. That much is clear from the trailer – you will find the most recent one embedded below.

Now, if S&M isn’t your cup of tea (or a movie about it), if you still believe in old-fashioned romance, or if you’re a religious person, there’s another romantic movie opening in theaters on the same day in February.

Written and directed by Rik Swartzwelder, it also stars Rik as “a former frat boy” who falls for “a free-spirited woman” and “together attempt the impossible: an ‘old-fashioned’ courtship in contemporary America.”

Rik knows that wider audiences want to see “Fifty Shades” so he’s using it to promote his own little movie, as you can see in the trailer below: he wants to prove that romance is not dead, that not everything has to be about carnal pleasure, that love exists and it usually leads to marriage, and that God is everywhere.

And he’s not afraid to pick up a fight with “Fifty Shades” even though he knows from the start it’s a losing fight he’s fighting. For that alone, his trailer deserves a watch, at the very least. The film actually seems better acted and better edited than “Fifty Shades.”
