In tandem with iOS 8.1.3, another important software update came out of Cupertino, California today, blessing Mac users with some much-needed fixes and improvements.

OS X 10.10.2 packs general fixes as well as specific code corrections and improvements in areas like Wi-Fi, Mail, Time Machine, iCloud Drive, VoiceOver, and Safari, as well as new content for Enterprise customers.

For client users

OS X 10.10.2 promises to repair a widely reported “Wi-Fi disconnect” flaw, as well as an issue that might cause web pages to load slowly, all while improving the stability and security of Safari.

Spotlight would load remote email content when this preference was disabled in Mail, leading to security concerns. After applying 10.10.2, this should no longer happen. Audio and video sync when using Bluetooth headphones is improved, and you can now browse iCloud Drive in Time Machine.

Users should further see an uptick in VoiceOver speech performance. Furthermore, the accessibility feature should no longer echo characters when entering text on a web page. An issue that could cause the input method to switch languages unexpectedly has been addressed.

Enterprise content

In a detailed advisory on its Support site, Apple reveals that OS X 10.10.2 not only packs changes for regular consumers, but also some new stuff for Enterprise users.

These include improved performance for browsing DFS shares in the Finder, fixed issues with Calendar invitations and Microsoft Exchange accounts, and a fix for Safari continually prompting for credentials when accessing a site protected by NTLM authentication. In Mail, users can also set "Out of Office" reply dates for Microsoft Exchange accounts.

The security content of the update has yet to be posted online. Download OS X 10.10.2 for your Mac right now and apply these improvements today.
