New countries have been added, along with water features

HERE has just updated their maps for Android and Windows Phone platforms with new water features and three new navigable regions. Public transportation maps for several cities have been upgraded as well following the same model added by HERE in the previous update.

But first things first, so let’s see what are the most important changes announced by HERE. Well, if there are any Windows Phone and Android users in Cyprus, Myotte and Zimbabwe, they will now have their entire maps updated to navigable status. Basically, this means that users in these countries will be able to take advantage of full turn-by-turn directions.

Lots of other major improvements have been made to maps for other regions in Africa like Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Fiji, Gambia, Liberia, Madagascar, Sierra Leone and Somalia.

Next in line, HERE has added some water features to its maps service. Apparently, the Finnish company thinks that it’s worth focusing on how the inland water is displayed: ponds, lakes and rivers.

After the update, those living near these particular water zones or found themselves traveling towards them will notice that the maps now display more info like how thin they look on the map.

These features are a bit harder to represent on the maps because the rivers’ size may vary over the passage of the seasons and the same goes for ponds.

Public transportation lines have been added for more cities

Moving on to public transportation improvements, HERE confirms that they have extended the previous public transit lines represented in Chicago to better match the reality of their geography to that of other cities.

This means that public transportation maps will now be more exact in the following cities: Kaohsiung, Taipei, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Singapore.

Anyone living in these cities will be able to see the patch of subway, train and tram lines, which wasn’t available until this update. These public transportation improvements will be added for other cities in the upcoming updates.

Speaking of which, in order to update your HERE Maps application on Android, tap on the notification to open it and then the update button on the screen when it’s open. You will need to restart the application to see the latest changes.

On Windows Phone simply open the Settings app on the smartphone, then head to the applications tab / maps / check for updates. If the update doesn’t show, then you should try again in a few days.
