14 DAY TRIAL // Nintendo confirmed that it had sold 9.2 million Wii U consoles since the device's launch back in 2012.
The information comes from the company's latest financial report, showing that Nintendo managed to find its footing and come on top with a profitable year for the first time since 2012, even if its latest console is still struggling.
The corporation revealed that between October and December of last year, the busiest retail period, it sold around 1.91 million systems, a tad lower when compared to 2013's 1.95 million Wii U units sold in the same period.
Furthermore, Nintendo revealed that it only managed to sell 3.03 million consoles since April last year, which was a lot less than the company initially projected. Nintendo initially predicted to surpass 9 million devices sold by the end of March 2014, and had to alter its sales projections in order to accommodate the results.
Things are slowing down for Nintendo
Year-on-year, Nintendo reported an 11.3 percent decrease in both hardware and software sales during 2014, with hardware taking the biggest hit.
The digital marketplace has seen a steady growth, following the global trend, with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U being the biggest sellers so far.
The 3DS handheld gaming device is still doing pretty well, but it's the Japanese market that's driving sales, with a healthy momentum in both hardware and software.
Nintendo is also looking to launch the New 3DS hardware in Europe and North America in February, which should further increase its profits. Over the course of 2014, Nintendo sold a total of 7.08 million "DS family" devices.
This cements the fact that the Wii U is the slowest selling console in Nintendo history, and it's certainly going to be interesting to see how the company reacts to this and how it aims to turn things around in the future.
