Nick Gordon, the boy raised by the late Whitney Houston as her son, and who entered a relationship with her daughter Bobbi Kristina (Krissi) after Whitney’s death, is now out of rehab. He checked himself in after a disastrous interview with Dr. Phil, which also doubled as an intervention, airing in mid-March.

Krissi has been in the hospital since January 31, when she was found face-down and unresponsive in the bathtub of the Georgia home she shared with Nick. He is the target of an ongoing criminal investigation to determine the events prior to her near-drowning.

Nick Gordon checks into rehab, makes plea for public sympathy

Nick Gordon is a controversial figure, with many reports from unconfirmed sources and even from family members saying he was a very destructive, negative influence on Krissi. The mere fact that he entered a relationship with her after Whitney’s death, who would have never allowed it to happen, speaks volumes as to his real intentions, it is being said.

Rumor has it that Nick only got with Krissi because Whitney had left him nothing in her will, so the only way to get to the money was to go through the person who had it all: Whitney’s only daughter. To that effect, he is believed to have plied her with drugs to maintain complete control over her life.

The near-drowning might have also been his doing, as police suspect a fight took place before it happened, based on injuries found on Krissi’s body.

Obviously, that’s not the story Nick told Dr. Phil in the aforementioned interview. Though highly intoxicated on prescription drugs and alcohol, he maintained his innocence and said that the Browns and the Houstons were only pointing the finger at him because they wanted a scapegoat for everything that had gone wrong in Krissi’ life.

He also said that the tragedies in his own life, first with Whitney’s death and then Krissi’s accident, had driven him to seek solace in substance and alcohol abuse.

The entire interview was meant to earn him public sympathy, on the one hand, and to get him to understand the severity of his problem, on the other.

Nick completes rehab program

It might not have worked wonders as far as that first goal is concerned, but it worked on the latter: Nick checked himself in right after the Dr. Phil chat and is now in recovery.

“I can confirm that Nick is no longer in rehab,” his attorney Randy Kessler confirms for People Magazine. A source tells the publication that he is now staying with his formerly-estranged mother, who is watching over him. She is also the one who arranged the Dr. Phil interview / intervention, fearing he was planning to do something to harm himself.

He might have come out with a solution in this chapter of his life, but he’s still seen as suspect in the ongoing police investigation. Reports claim that he refused to cooperate with the cops prior to his rehab stint.

Meanwhile, Bobbi Kristina remains in hospital: as per the family’s most recent updates, she is out of the coma and off life support, but she remains unresponsive and has “irreversible brain damage.” She will live but the quality of her life won’t be determined for many years to come, during which she will be closely monitored.
