Windows 10 for phones preview was launched on February 12 with support for only a handful of Lumia models, but Microsoft is working to expand the program to also include additional devices, with flagships among them.

Now Gabe Aul has confirmed what we exclusively reported earlier this week, revealing that the next Windows 10 build for phones will also support more models and will also come with an updated store.

In a post on Twitter, Aul has pointed out that work on the next Windows 10 for phones build is almost completed and has explained that it will “support several additional phones.” At the same time, he has confirmed that a new store will be part of the build, but no additional information has been provided.

Bringing the two stores closer together

Flagships such as Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 will be among the supported models in the next Windows 10 for phones preview, sources tell us, as Microsoft has worked very hard to address the criticism it received after the initial rollout, when it only released the build to low-end devices.

At the same time, Microsoft will also provide the very first look at the new app store for phones, as the company is working to bring together the stores available on PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

Since universal apps will be the core of everything in Windows 10, the firm is working to offer a single store across all devices, so phone users would get the first look at this project in the upcoming build.

Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9926, available on PCs and tablets, already has a beta version of the new store, and expect the new one available on phones to look more or less the same.

As far as the release date of the new build is concerned, Microsoft has remained tight-lipped, but we're hearing that the company is planning to bring out an updated version of Windows 10 for PCs first and only after a couple of weeks the next phone version.
