A few moments ago, Realtek HD Audio Driver version 6.0.1.7368 has been spotted on Microsoft’s Update Catalog, which applies a newer build than the official Realtek HD Audio Driver 2.75.

If we were to compare these two releases, a few differences would definitely stand out. First of all, the official update installs audio build 7246 on systems powered by Microsoft’s Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 OSes, both bit variants.

As for the present update, this package applies an obvious 7368 audio version but only on the 64-bit architecture of Windows 7 and both 32- and 64-bit variants of Windows 8.1 operating systems.

Secondly, Realtek’s 2.75 driver is provided as an .exe file, therefore installing it requires only opening the executable and following the on-screen instructions. However, the same characteristics don’t apply to the Microsoft-related package.

Specifically speaking, this release is available as a cabinet file, therefore applying it isn’t as easy as one, two, three, but not too difficult either, so I will highlight the steps to be taken in order to properly update to this version.

That being said, after you get the .cab file, you must go to Device Manager, right-click on “High Definition Audio Device” and select “Update Driver Software,” browse and select the downloaded .cab file, and agree with the installation by pressing the “Next” button.

With this in mind, download Realtek HD Audio Driver 6.0.1.7368 for the appropriate Windows platform, apply it to your system, and stay “updated one minute ago.”
