The new God of War game that's been officially confirmed and then saw its announcement pulled isn't going to be a prequel, according to a statement from its Director, Cory Barlog, who also hints that work has just begun on the title.

The God of War series delighted tens of millions of PS2 owners many years ago, and the two PS3 installments, God of War 3 and God of War: Ascension, enjoyed quite a fair amount of success, despite going into different directions.

Now, it seems that developer Sony Santa Monica is working on another game in the series, despite the studio pulling back its announcement from the actual Twitter page.

Even so, IGN got to see the presentation held by God of War 2 Director Cory Barlog at the PlayStation Experience last weekend and he confirmed that a new title was in development under his leadership.

He also mentioned that the game wasn’t a prequel, unlike Ascension, so players should expect some new stories, possibly in the form of a reboot.

Barlog also mentioned that more details would be shared in the next year or two, so it seems that work on the game has just started, so don't expect the title to appear anytime soon.
