Sony Santa Monica confirmed over the weekend that it was making a brand new game in the God of War series, but it's since backtracked on the statement by deleting the tweet.

The PlayStation Experience event was organized by Sony over the last weekend and saw all sorts of different PlayStation-centric announcements be made, from new footage from Uncharted 4 to reveals about upcoming PS4, PS3, or PS Vita titles.

During the event, a special panel was organized about the God of War series, and God of War 2 director Cory Barlog talked to fans about the titles so far.

On Twitter, as spotted by GameInformer, Sony Santa Monica, the studio in charge of the series, has confirmed that it's working on a brand new God of War game and asked those who went to the panel at the PlayStation Experience to not tell anyone what Barlog had just said to them.

It's unclear if the Santa Monica team is trying to prepare for a full-fledged announcement, as no other statements have been made since then relating to the new God of War experience.

The last title, God of War: Ascension, saw Kratos embark on a different story and even introduced a multiplayer mode to the traditionally single-player experience that impressed some fans.

Expect to see a proper confirmation soon enough.
