The two peripherals are set apart by the sensor type

The days when the mouse was just a necessary but otherwise unremarkable part of computers have long passed. Now, there are plenty of different sorts of mice for just as many different usage scenarios. Corsair has just unveiled its two newest gaming models.

Called the Gaming Sabre RGB Mice, they get their name from the red-green-blue LED color system found within, like in a few other mice.

This system can enable no less than 16.8 million combinations and, by extension, 16.8 million different colors or hues. Instead of coming with a set of three or five colors, you can choose exactly the one you like most. In fact, you can have four colors at the same time, since the mice have four-zone illumination.

Of course, looks alone aren't going to sell a mouse, so Corsair made sure the effort wasn't wasted. The new products do have to sell to the same crowd as the Corsair Gaming K70, K95, or K65 RGB mechanical keyboards, plus the Corsair Gaming H1500 and H2100 gaming headsets.

Let's get the differences out of the way first. Or the difference, since there's only one: the sensor. One version of the peripheral employs a 6400 DPI optical sensor with multi-color tracking, while the other has a better, 8200 DPI laser sensor with support for any surface (well, mostly).

That said, both mice have high-reliability switches expected to last for 20 million clicks, which should carry them forward through time well enough. They'll definitely live longer than your PC configuration, if you're a hardcore gamer at least.

The mice also use easy-flex cables with a length of 1.8 meters / 5.9 feet, plus CUE software so that you can customize the DPI, acceleration, and smoothing, as well as the colors. Macros are another thing that fall under the purview of the CUE software.

Availability and pricing

The Corsair Gaming Sabre RGB Mice should already be selling for $59.99 /€59.99 and $69.99 / €69.99, with lightweight cases that let them stay under 100 grams / 3.5 ounces, mass-wise.

The only thing you won't find is a multitude of different buttons, since Corsair wasn't aiming for MMO lovers but for gamers in general. Although there is an extra dual-function button next to the left click.

The company's designers may or may not have been thinking about the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed Unity, which earned itself a couple of Samsung product bundles already, among other things. Then again, Pillars of Eternity might have crossed their minds too, even if action, RTS and shooting games are the ones that need high DPI the most.
