You'll never be caught speeding ever again

Police cars and their radars like to sit hidden around turns or behind other cars or structures, so that you don't get forewarned in case you like to exceed legal speed limits, or otherwise break the law.

For those who want to get such forewarning, British company CBS Automotive has begun to distribute a new gadget that drivers can install on their dashboards.

An item not too dissimilar from a satellite navigation device, the Target Blu Eye could become the bane of all policemen everywhere.

Why? Because its single purpose is to tap into the TETRA radio frequency and inform you of any police vehicles that may be further down the road, or generally in the vicinity. Even helicopters.

What the TETRA radio frequency does

In a nutshell, it's the frequency that all emergency services in the United Kingdom use. Firefighters, policemen, search and rescue crews, they all use it.

It's what all intrepid superheroes and vigilantes in comic books use in order to learn of where crimes are taking place.

Of course, it's also something that the common man shouldn't meddle with. After all, any disruption on the TETRA frequency can result in loss of life, property damage, and various other consequences.

The official role of Target Blu Eye

CBS Automotive says the device is intended to let people know all they need to know in order to prevent dangerous and unpredictable maneuvers.

In other words, it's meant to increase your safety and that of other users. The reality, of course, is much more controversial. The police, understandably enough, don't appreciate what the Target Blu Eye can do. At all.

It will let criminals get away scot-free

Gwent Police Crime Commissioner Ian Johnston said it pretty well: “A criminal will carry out a drug deal, see a light on their dashboard and then ditch their illegal stash, only to pick it up when the police aren’t around – or a motorist will be speeding on the motorway, an alert will pop up and they’ll slow down.”

CBS claims that the Target Blu Eye acts as a crime prevention tool, since you wouldn't dare go through with a crime if you knew cops were watching. Still, that doesn't actually refute the Commissioner's point.

This is what you get when it's not against the law for the common citizen to tap into the TETRA frequency by means other than emergency calls. At least the device isn't cheap: £999 / $1,571 / €1,261.
