Nintendo has revealed the next entrants in its Amiibo series, showing a line-up consisting of Dr. Mario, Zero Suit Samus, some Splatoon Inklings, and many others.

The news comes from the latest Nintendo Direct from yesterday, when the company showed off some new figures and unveiled its plans regarding the popular figurines in the next months.

The new toys will be compatible with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and with the upcoming Splatoon and Yoshi's Woolly World, slated for release this May and September, respectively.

The next wave of Amiibo figurines is set to debut as scheduled, on May 29, consisting of the previously announced Pac-Man, Charizard, Wario, Jigglypuff, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, and Ness.

In order to celebrate the release of the highly anticipated and colorful Wii U exclusive third-person shooter Splatoon, the company will be releasing three more Amiibo, based on the Inkling boy, girl, and squid characters.

The toys will unlock some special missions in the game, enabling users to gain access to some special exclusive weapons and gear, helping them fill the battlegrounds with colored paint even faster.

In addition to this, we'll be getting a fresh batch of toys in the Super Smash Bros series, including Dark Pit and Palutena in July, followed by Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, Bowser Jr., and Olimar in September.

Nintendo is really going wild with the Amiibos

But the exciting news doesn't stop here, as apparently, Nintendo has decided to bring to life two new styles of Amiibo, in the form of some Yoshi Amiibo made out of actual yarn, available in three different colors, and card-based Amiibo, the first set of which will be compatible with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on the 3DS handheld gaming console.

Nintendo will also be releasing an NFC reader and writer peripheral, to be used with the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS, offering the same functionality for scanning Amiibo figures currently supported by the New Nintendo 3DS system.
