The new Need for Speed video game was revealed last week by the development team at Ghost Games and publisher Electronic Arts and it seems that claims that it will be a full reboot do not offer a full picture about the core features of the upcoming racing title.

The official Twitter account for the title has answered a player inquiry by explaining that there's a shared legacy between the new experience and the classic Underground titles, even if the naming might not directly reflect it.

The official announcement says that Need for Speed will be focused on car culture and on customization.

It is unclear whether the developers are aiming to deliver a full story to support the action in the racing title or if they will be focused on making sure that the actual mechanics deliver an improvement when compared to the classics in the series.

Vehicles like the Ford Mustang, the Porsche 911 or a Nissan 180SX will be included and presumably gamers will hear more about the list of cars and the game modes when the E3 2015 event rolls around next month.

Need for Speed will use the Frostbite engine

The racing series has always prided itself on making the included cars, and the environments look the best they can be.

The new Need for Speed will be created by Ghost Games using the most recent incarnation of the Frostbite engine, which has already delivered some impressive worlds and action moments in Battlefield Hardline and in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

The same tech will also be used to create the new Star Wars Battlefront title, which is coming on November 17 of this year.

Electronic Arts has not said whether it has plans to put an emphasis on the multiplayer element of the racing series or if the single player will be the main attraction.

The new Need for Speed will only be offered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PC.

The game will have to compete with a new Forza Motorsport during the fall, although it might have the advantage of arriving on more than one platform.
