NETGEAR has just rolled out a new RAIDiator firmware package developed for some of its ReadyNAS devices, namely version 4.2.27, which improves the overall security level by updating the OpenSSL and Samba versions.

In addition to that, the new version also updates Bash and fixes the ShellShock vulnerability, fixes the Network checksum issue spotted on 4-bay units that use bonding, and enables DLNA support for FLV files.

As for the compatible products, this release is targeted at devices included in the producer’s ReadyNAS 1500, 2100, 3100, 3200, and 4200, and ReadyNAS Ultra 2/Plus, Ultra 4/Plus, and Ultra 6/Plus series lineup.

Moreover, ReadyNAS Pro 2, Pro 4, Pro 6, Pro Business Edition, Pro Pioneer Edition, as well as ReadyNAS NVX and NVX Pioneer Edition devices can also make use of the 4.2.27 firmware update.

When it comes to the installation steps, the producer highlights that the easiest way to perform the upgrade is by saving and unzipping the downloadable archive, and then using it to initiate the update process from the System/Update/Remote tab in FrontView.

During the installation, make sure you don’t turn off/reboot the NAS or interrupt the process in any way, as this will not only crash the update but also cause serious device malfunctions.

That being said, download NETGEAR ReadyNAS RAIDiator Firmware 4.2.27 for the appropriate device model, apply the package, and enjoy your newly improved network storage.
