NBA 2K15 will be free to download and play this weekend on the Xbox One console for Xbox Live Gold users, and those that want to extend their experience can get a special NBA 2K15 bundle that comes with the game as well as virtual currency and more. Existing owners can score discounts on currency packs throughout the weekend.

NBA 2K15 went live in fall of last year, and like previous entries in the series, it went on to earn great sales and a big fanbase that upgraded from 2K14 to the new title across PC, PS4, or Xbox One.

NBA 2K15 goes free to celebrate the playoffs this weekend

Basketball fans are gearing up for the NBA playoffs this weekend and Microsoft has partnered with 2K Games to ensure that Xbox One owners can get in on the virtual action in NBA 2K15, according to the Xbox Wire.

More specifically, Xbox One owners with active Xbox Live Gold memberships can download and play for free NBA 2K15 on the console from 12pm PDT on April 24 until 12:01am PDT on Monday, April 27. During this time, console users can visit the Gold member area from the dashboard and download the game for free.

Once the period expires, however, you won't be able to continue playing the game unless you buy it, either digitally from the Xbox One Store or retail outlets. If you do such a thing, you can keep your Gamerscore and achievements while continuing from where you left off once the free period ended.

During the weekend, you can score a special NBA 2K15 bundle that includes the game plus 15,000 of virtual currency with a 40% discount. Existing owners of the game can score a 33% discount on all NBA 2K15 virtual currency DLC packs.

It's possible that NBA 2K15 might go free on other platforms, like Steam, during the NBA playoffs, but so far it has remained unconfirmed.
