The new version should land in various repos soon

Mozilla has just announced that its latest Firefox browser offering, 36.0, is now out and ready for download in all its glory. It might seem like just another run-off-the-mill version, but there are some features that should raise at least a few eyebrows.

The previous Firefox release was made just a month and a half ago, but that was more than enough time to finish polishing all the cool features that have made their way in. In all fairness, these features were not actually implemented a month ago, they made their way down from the nightly and Alpha builds for Firefox. So, they have been in the works for months.

It might not look like it's a major release, but only the ability to sync the pinned tiles and the support for HTTP/2 make this a must-have version. As usual, it will take a while for the application to reach the repositories, although some repos will have it sooner than others.

Firefox 36 is more than interesting

Our colleague Marius Nestor covered the implementation of HTTP/2 in much greater detail, but it's interesting to notice that it showed up in the release notes just a week ago, for the launch of one of the latest Beta versions.

The top of the list is occupied by the ability to sync pinned tiles. This is important especially if you reinstall your system and you want to have some tabs save up or you want to sync with another computer, for example from home to work.

Also, the -remote option has been removed, RC4 ciphers are no longer accepted, certificates with 1024-bit RSA Keys are being phased out, some changes that could affect add-on compatibility have been implemented, support has been implemented for the ECMAScript 6 Symbol data type, and a few issues that would cause the browser to log out the user from Facebook or Google after restart have been fixed.

You can download Firefox 36 from Softpedia for the Linux platform. This is the binary file, so you can't install it, you can just run it. The Windows and Mac OS X versions can be downloaded from Softpedia as well.
