Good news for Moto Maxx owners, as Motorola has just kicked off the rollout of the long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update. It looks like the US-based handset maker has decided to upgrade the international version of the DROID Turbo before Verizon's variant.

Motorola launched the Moto Maxx in Latin America, India and other emerging markets. Just like Verizon's version called DROID Turbo, the Moto Maxx was released with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box.

However, the company confirmed an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade will be available at some point this year. We reported a few days ago that a Verizon engineer stated that the carrier will start pushing Lollipop to DROID Turbo in mid-June.

Well, it looks like Motorola Moto Maxx is getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop as we speak, bestgadgetry reports. For the time being, the update is only available in India, but we suspect Motorola will continue the rollout in other countries where the Moto Maxx is available as well.

Some performance improvements and bug fixes

According to the source cited, the update is about 16.7MB in size, which is surprisingly low considering the number of new features and improvements it should bring.

After upgrading to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, the owner of the Motorola Moto Maxx reported a benchmark score of 44,787, which is a slight increase from the older score of 42,273.

It's unclear whether or not the update also fixes the overheating issues some Moto Maxx owners have been experiencing, but let's hope it does.

We expect the DROID Turbo to start getting the Android 5.1 Lollipop update in about a month as well, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.

If you own a Motorola Moto Maxx smartphone, let us know in the comments if you managed to capture the update and what changes it brings.
