Mortal Kombat X, the next iteration in the long running fighting game series from NetherRealm, has just received some more details courtesy of one of its developers, stating that there will be no Babalities in the new title and that it could end up featuring over 24 characters, depending on how fast the team moves before it enters the final stage of development.

The Mortal Kombat series has delighted millions of fans from around the world for quite some time, but after some shaky periods a few years ago, it has proved once again that it can still pull off its ultra-violent blend of virtual fighting with the reboot called simply Mortal Kombat.

For the next game in the series, NetherRealm is going back to the numbered strategy, as the title is called Mortal Kombat X, and millions of fans are already very excited about the new title, thanks to some violent videos and screenshots rolled out by the studio and publisher Warner Bros.

New details are now available

NetherRealm was present at this weekend's The Game Awards, and even though no new videos or screenshots have been shared, Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick has shared a few new bits of info about the upcoming game, via TheKombatTether.

First up, for hardcore fans, Himmerick confirms that there will be no Babalities in the new game as they don't fit the new style employed by the Mortal Kombat series. Even so, Fatalities will be present in the story mode and every stage will have some form of environmental interaction, meaning you can inflict more damage using your surroundings.

Speaking of the actual stages, he also says that there will be no day and night versions of the Mortal Kombat X levels, although some will have a dynamic weather system that changes as the match progresses.

More characters are being added to the title

Himmerick says that the character roster isn't final and that it could expand beyond the promised 24 fighters, depending on how much NetherRealm can jam into the title before it enters the final stage of development in January.

Also in the January or February period, he confirms that the first story details will be shared by the studio and that Quan Chi's resurrection abilities might result in revenants of characters who fell in the previous game to return in the new one.

Expect to hear much more about Mortal Kombat X as we get closer to its release that's scheduled for April 2014 on the PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
