The upcoming Mortal Kombat X will feature a bunch of interesting characters, including post-launch ones, and apparently, gamers will be able to try them out without having to buy them first.

The upcoming fighting video game is setting out to become the best in the franchise yet. After the series' highly successful reboot in 2009, followed by Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013, developer NetherRealm Studios seems to be on a roll.

Mortal Kombat X is due out in two weeks, and it's really exciting. So far, we know that, in addition to a large roster of characters, including the most brand new warriors to ever make their debut in a single game in the series, we're also going to get Jason Vorhees, Tremor, Predator and Tanya as post-launch DLC.

Series producer Ed Boon has revealed that players will be able to take the characters for a spin prior to purchasing them, in order to make up their mind if they are worth it, through the game's Tower Mode.

You'll be able to take the new characters for a quick spin

In a recent interview with Angry Joe, Boon has revealed that there will be three Living Towers in the upcoming game, and each one will change characters on an hourly or daily basis, with the final one, the Premier Tower, being a sort of event tower.

The way this will work is that, when a new character rolls out, there will be a tower featuring that particular fighter and players will be able to use it even if they didn't purchase the associated DLC.

This means that people will get a taste of what the characters play like by trying them out before committing to a purchase. While this won't enable them to test them out against high-level competition, it's still a pretty good way to get acquainted to the new fighters.

Mortal Kombat X is coming out on April 14, headed to PC and to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 home consoles. An Android and iOS version, optimized for touch controls, will also debut on the same day, with an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 port to be released sometime later this year.
