The upcoming Mortal Kombat X fighting game takes advantage of the PS4 and Xbox One power to deliver a much more impressive experience in terms of visuals, and the title is already in the testing stage with regular people and pro players.

The Mortal Kombat series has delighted millions of fans across multiple generations, starting out life in arcades and then transitioning to consoles. It made a solid impression with the simply-titled Mortal Kombat reboot a few years ago and now developer NetherRealm is working hard on completing work on Mortal Kombat X, which continues the experience.

The new game takes advantage of the power of the new consoles

The title has already received quite a few details over the last few months and now the studio's Executive Producer, Shaun Himmerick, offers some fresh details about the challenge posed by the new platforms that will see the release of Mortal Kombat X, in the form of the PS4 and Xbox One.

According to him, getting the game functionality on the new consoles wasn't so hard, thanks to their power, but making sure that characters looked as impressive as possible was a tougher task, as its art team had to really work to ensure great visuals are achieved.

"The new hardware has been so powerful that we don't really have a big challenge comparatively to previous generations. I don't want to say it's the easiest, but Sony and Microsoft have been so good with the tools comparatively to history. I think it's been harder on art than anything because look at the number of polygons used to create any character and it could have been done in a couple of weeks. Now it's like a six week process," he explains to GameInformer.

Mortal Kombat X is now in the testing phase

Himmerick also confirms that, right now, the studio is in the testing process for Mortal Kombat X, as several hundred people are going through the many different modes and aspects of the game. From regular fans to professional players, there are plenty of people who are going through every possible combination of fighters and situations in order to ensure that no bugs appear.

"We have the pro testers coming in now so we can get their balancing done. It's hot and furious as always. We're getting people in to test. We have something like 300 testers between the different groups that are focused on different things. The game is so big that we need people to play story mode, online, play every character against every character with every variation. You have to play every variation against every variation on that matrix. You just need an army of people," he adds.

Mortal Kombat X is expected to launch on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in April of 2015. You can bet that more details will be revealed later next year.
