Video game developer NetherRealm Studios and publisher Warner Bros. are announcing that Reptile, a fan favorite, will be a playable character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, offering gamers access to a unique set of skills which involve acid spitting and snake-like moves.

The official reveal video features the character in combat with Kung Lao and showcases some of the ways he can use his powers to confuse and take out enemies.

Reptile will be able to spit acid, slide into attacks, turn invisible, launch venom at his enemies and use his tongue to trap them before launching a variety of strikes.

His skill set will be familiar to all those who have played him in previous Mortal Kombat titles, but the finishing move that NetherRealms is showing in the video is new and very gruesome.

The studio has said that two characters for their new fighting game will be revealed this week, so another video will probably arrive on Thursday or Friday.

The community has been speculating heavily about the new fighter, but the development team has not confirmed whether a new combatant is being created or an old one is set to return.

Mortal Kombat X will mix fighting and story elements

Mortal Kombat X is designed to keep the core elements of the franchise alive while adding more ways to interact with the environment for all fighters and interesting moves for them to execute.

The studio claims that it has created an interesting and non-linear story that will allow players to jump into the future and see how the veterans of the franchise perform when they get old and how the powers of some new combatants work.

Ed Boon, the creator of the series, also says that the online functionality of the game will be superior to anything that his team has created before, with more details set to be offered before the title is out.

Mortal Kombat X is set to arrive on April 14 and can be played on the PC, the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the Xbox One from Microsoft, and last-gen consoles.
