Mobie is a new kind of 2-in-1 tablet developed in Finland that is capable to dual-boot Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Windows 8.1. It's being launched in a couple of months and it already looks very good, at least on paper.

Mobie Oy is a Finish company and they announced a while ago that they intended to release a tablet / PC (2-in-1) that will be used as a teaching device, for both professors and students. They have been working on it for some time and it looks like they are finally ready. They didn't go to a crowdfunding website to get the funds, they just did it.

There are not many devices like this one out into the wild that can boot both Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Windows 8.1, and especially not tablets. It's not the first thing that comes to mind either, but it could prove to be an interesting solution.

Mobie has two versions, one for students and one for teachers

The entire website is in Finnish and Google Translate doesn't really help, but the good guys of Reddit have been quick to provide all the necessary information that a user might need.

The tablet actually comes in three sizes, 8", 10.1" and 11.6", they are using Intel processors (i3 or i5, not specified), 64GB of internal storage, another 64GB through an SD memory, and 2GB of RAM. This version costs $786 (€695). The Ubuntu OS also comes pre-installed with OnEdu, an education-oriented application.

Now, there is another version called the Mobie OnEduServer, which is actually powered by an Intel i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, features an 128GB SSD, has an 11,6" Full HD and a network interface card that can connect to up to 50 devices simultaneously. This version costs $1359 (€1195).

The launch date should be in April or May, at the latest.
