Sony has revealed that the PlayStation 4 edition of the glorious and massively popular sandbox survival and construction game Minecraft will hit stores in physical form on October 7.

The PS4 variant of Minecraft, developed by 4J Studios, the makers of all other console ports, is based on the Xbox 360/PS3 versions of Mojang's open-world building game, which are themselves pared-down versions of the PC one.

The powerful hardware of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, however, translated into worlds up to 36 times bigger than on last-gen home consoles, as well as better view distance and other such improvements.

In addition to this, players are able to transfer their existing saved games from the PS3 and Xbox 360 to either the PS4 or Xbox One, thus not having to renounce their current progress and start over.

For the time being, Sony is being hush-hush about the upcoming PlayStation Vita edition of Minecraft, which was initially supposed to come out at the same time as the current-gen console one.

The company has only stated that more information will be available sometime over the following weeks, including how cross-buy and cross-save will work for those already playing Minecraft on another of Sony's consoles.
