Microsoft is one of the many major companies in the world that support the healthcare system with devices and donations.

This time nurses in the United States may take advantage of a new partnership between Microsoft and HP that will see the advancement of nursing practice with special healthcare tablets.

It all started with Microsoft Chief Nursing Strategist, Molly K. McCarthy RN, MBA who tweeted to her nursing colleagues across the country, “#Tablets for #RNS? What features resonate?”

Basically, she wanted to know what features a tablet should pack in order to be suitable for nursing practice in hospitals. After tweeting that message, she received overwhelming feedback that told her the needs of her colleagues.

So what features the perfect tablet for nursing practice should have to make nurses want to use them in helping take care of their patients? Here are some of their answers:

- Must be wipeable/cleanable and consider infection control; - Enable the nurse to be more productive in his/her workflow; - Allow the nurse to engage with the patient and provide education; - Be resilient and be able to endure drops and spills; - Designed to be lightweight and easy to carry; - Able to write with a stylus/pen.

Security is another important feature which is much needed in order to keep patient information safe and free from medical identity theft.

HP ElitePad Heathcare Tablet will be introduced in hospitals next month

In this regard, Microsoft recommends the HP ElitePad Healthcare Tablet with Office 365. A tablet that features an ergonomic design and is easy to carry because it comes with both hand and shoulder strap.

It also comes with a pen and the option to handwrite or type with it. According to HP, its tablet has also received MIL STD certification by passing various drop tests. The slate is also water resistant with IP54 standards.

When it comes to security, HP ElitePad Healthcare Tablet features certified smart card reader, HP Client Security, HP BIOS Protection and Trusted Platform Module, as well as full disk encryption.

HP ElitePad Healthcare Tablet will be introduced for the first time at HIMSS in Chicago sometime in April, but you can watch the tablet in action in the video below.
