Microsoft promised to launch the first Windows 10 for Phones preview build in February, so the company is now giving the last touches to an Insider program that's scheduled to provide users with access to these early tidbits of the new operating system.

As a result, the Phone Insider app, which was released for the first time a couple of weeks ago in the Windows Phone Store, has received an update which brings several fixes but also a new name, which suggests that we're getting very close to the eagerly anticipated launch of Windows 10 for Phones preview.

The app is no longer called Phone Insider but Windows Insider, just like its sibling service on the desktop, that allows users to download Technical Preview builds of Windows 10 for PCs.

Microsoft hasn't yet provided any details on this new update, but since the app has been updated on all phones, expect the company to make the final improvements before the big release in February.

Nothing beyond the main screen

Unsurprisingly, the app isn't working right now, and no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to get past the main screen.

The app requires you to enter your Microsoft account to continue, but when doing this, you are automatically redirected to the main screen.

This means that Microsoft's hasn't yet unlocked the preview builds for users and most likely only those working for the company have access to them. Obviously, this is expected to change next month, when everyone should be able to download the preview build of Windows 10 for Phones freely.

Windows 10 for Phones will work on all devices powered by Windows Phone 8, Microsoft promises, but the company has also explained that some models, including those in the low-end lineup, might get a somewhat limited experience because of their low hardware capabilities.

Flagships, on the other hand, should provide the full Windows 10 for Phones experience, so it'll be really interesting to see how Microsoft manages to revamp its smartphone efforts with this new OS.
