Now that the technology giant headquartered in Redmond has its very own wearable device on the market, it’s only natural to expect all its apps to be updated to work with it and thus help buyers make the most of their wristbands.

The Microsoft Health app is the very first that received an update to become compatible with Band, so Windows Phone users should get the new version as soon as possible, especially if they ordered Microsoft’s new device.

Basically, the Windows Phone application is designed to help perform a number of tasks that are already integrated into Microsoft Band, such as tracking heart rate, steps, calorie burn, and sleep quality.

At the same time, the new app description published in the Windows Phone Store also provides an indication that the Microsoft Band could get even enhanced functionality when being used with Microsoft Health, as you can “personalize your device and get new features as they roll out.”

Also working with other services

The new Microsoft Health works not only with Redmond’s very own Band, but also with other devices and services, with the company promising that even more will be added very soon.

At this point, full compatibility is being offered for UP by Jawbone, MapMyFitness, MyFitnessPal and RunKeeper, the company says.

But there’s no doubt that using it with Microsoft Band is the whole idea behind this new update, and the company hopes that many will install it with this goal in mind.

“With the Microsoft Health Windows Phone app, you can personalize your Microsoft Band. You can check out your wellness goals and your fitness data like your heart rate, steps, calorie burn, and sleep quality as well as maximize your fitness with Guided Workouts, 24-hour heart rate monitoring and automatic activity counting,” it says.

The Band is available today

Microsoft’s Band is available for United States customers starting today, but the company says that only limited quantities are up for grabs for the moment.

The device comes with a total of 10 different sensors to monitor exercises and keep an eye on your heart activity, but also with a high-quality display that shows notifications for new emails, messages, tweets, and Facebook posts when paired with a phone.

The Microsoft Band can be used with Windows Phone, iOS, and Android handsets, and Microsoft promised to launch companion apps for each platform, just to make sure that everyone makes the most of the device no matter their phone.
