It strongly resembles the desktop version

Microsoft has already given us a glimpse at Windows 10 for Phones, as many of us have installed the latest Technical Preview builds launched by the company in the last few months. However, we had little details on the Microsoft's plans for tablets.

Although we initially thought that the small tablets to be powered by Windows 10 would in fact scale up the operating system meant for smartphones, it looks like the Redmond-based company has other plans.

Microsoft's Ignite conference was an opportunity for the company to show off Windows 10 on small tablets and judging by the pictures coming from The Verge, the new OS strongly resembles the desktop version.

The tablets showcased by Microsoft sport 8-inch displays, so seeing the Windows 10 for PC being miniaturized and stuffed inside such a small device might seem weird at first glance.

However, Microsoft did quite a lot of improvements and there are many changes that differentiate it from Windows 10 for desktop.

Windows 10 on small tablets looks familiar

For example, the Charms bar has been completely removed and Microsoft has decided that it should put something else instead, a Notification Center, allowing for quick access to settings.

All small tablets powered by Windows 10 will also come with Continuum, which has been confirmed for desktop and phones.

This will allow users to switch between tablet mode and desktop. It's also worth mentioning that when you enable the touch mode on these small tablets, the Windows apps from Windows 8 will show up, as well as the fullscreen Start Screen.

At the bottom, there's a taskbar that contains various apps and Cortana, for quick access. Since this is a work in progress, Microsoft will probably polish the experience on these small tablets, so we expect even better results later this year.
