Microsoft rolled out a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3 on January 15, nearly two months after the last release, thus delivering a new round of improvements for those who purchased the company's top-of-the-range tablet model.

Needless to say, this new firmware version came with plenty of improvements and bug fixes, but in a post today, Microsoft reveals that there are many other changes part of this new release.

The full changelog, which you can find in a post after the jump, also includes references to improvements made for Windows 10, so Surface Pro 3 should now be fully compatible with the new operating system that's currently in the works at Microsoft.

Fix for limited Wi-Fi bug

One of the issues that are still being experienced on the Surface Pro 3 causes limited Wi-Fi connections on plenty of devices, and even though the company has released several patches to address this problem, none has actually managed to fix it once and for all.

So, included in this update is also a new option that should significantly improve the Wi-Fi experience with a Surface Pro 3 and most likely to help deal with this bug.

Here's what Microsoft mentions in the release notes:

“As part of ongoing improvements to Wi-Fi experience on Surface Pro 3 device, customers now have the ability to manually select a preference between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connections for their device. We will publish a separate blog to describe this functionality further so more customers can take advantage of this capability.”

All delivered via Windows Update

Just like all the other system updates, this new firmware version is shipped to Surface Pro 3 tablets via Windows Update, so basically, all you have to do is wait and hope that everything will install fine.

Right now, we're not aware of any issues experienced by users when trying to install the Surface Pro 3 firmware update, but we'll keep an eye on reports and will update this article if anything pops up.

Just make sure that your device's battery is fully charged before installing the updates.
