The black lock screen bug in build 10061 is now fixed

Microsoft rolled out a new patch for Windows 10 build 10061 today that addresses a bug affecting the lock screen and turning it to black whenever someone attempted to log in.

Needless to say, this bug made Windows 10 build 10061 impossible to use for everyone because it was really difficult to log into the affected computer, as the password box wasn’t visible.

But the patch released today via Windows Update should fix all the problems, the company says, so if you’re running Windows 10 build 10061, make sure you check for new fixes as soon as possible.

“When you sign out of Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10061 and return to the lock screen, you might see only a black screen with a responsive mouse cursor. Pressing the Alt+Tab keys or the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys has no visible effect,” Microsoft says in the description of the bug.

Still no ISOs for this build

Despite the fact that Microsoft keeps working on Windows 10 build 10061 and fixes bugs on a regular basis, the company is yet to release the official ISOs for this new version that would allow users to perform a clean install.

Microsoft usually rolls out new ISOs for each build once they become available for users enrolled in the slow ring of the Windows Insider program, and version 10061 is still offered to fast ring users only.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has said in a short tweet that the team indeed sees a good progress on fixing bugs and addressing all the other widespread issues that were found in build 10061, but he has added that there’s still no decision on whether ISOs should be released or not.

Interestingly, the latest ISOs that Microsoft rolled out were for build 10041, so if you do want to make a clean install, you need to complete the painful process of updating your system manually all the way up to 10061.
