Adjusted color contrast in chat for improved readability

Mac users who communicate with their faraway friends using Skype have a new update at their disposal that addresses contrast issues in the chat client and includes several minor redesigns across the board.

Several bugs are fixed in the new Skype 7.2, but there still is a CPU issue in there that needs addressing. Perhaps in future releases. For now, let’s look at the current build.

Redesigned, improved Skype 7.2

Microsoft makes the news official on the Skype Garage blog, where it states, “Today we’re pleased to release Skype 7.2 for Mac. We have been listening to your feedback since we launched the redesigned client, and have adjusted color contrast in chat to make it easier to read.” The Redmond software maker adds that the engineering team has been busy addressing a few bugs as well.

The new version addresses crashes when changing profile picture, in the welcome tour when playing test sound and navigating to the next page, and on systems with Ecamm Call Recorder 2.5.11 installed when launching Skype. For users whose call phone number button and Send SMS button don’t work on contacts’ profile page, Skype 7.2 is also a must download, as it addresses this problem as well.

Known issues, more fixes on the way

As usual, Microsoft isn’t shy to outline some of the bugs it hasn’t been able to address. After all, they wouldn’t be able to get any new features out ever, had they wanted to roll out a 100% bug-free Skype.

One known issue still present in the communications software is “High CPU usage when idle on profile page,” which is a common problem among video chat apps and one that can be caused by other issues that are yet to be discovered.

“We are working hard on addressing more of your feedback as well as introducing new features to make your Skype experience even better. Please download the new Skype for Mac now, give it a try and continue to share your feedback with us. We really hope you enjoy the update,” Microsoft concludes.

To download Skype 7.2 for Mac, you’ll need OS X 10.9 Mavericks or newer. OS X 10.10 Yosemite is natively supported as well.

Microsoft encourages users to follow the Skype team’s moves on Twitter, Facebook, and the Skype Community. There, users can not only get the latest news and tips, but also share their feedback and hope to see the respective changes materialize in a future release.
