Today, Microsoft has rolled out the very first update for Windows 10 build 9926, which doesn't bring any new features but is mostly focused on fixing bugs that were spotted after installing this particular version of PCs and tablets.

The released bulletin, KB3035129, which is intuitively called Windows 10 Technical Preview Update Rollup: January 27, 2015, is only shipped to Windows 10 devices and includes a “collection of performance and reliability improvements,” as the company states in an official advisory.

Just like all the other patches, this new one is being shipped through Windows Update, so you might be prompted to install it sometime today. A reboot is necessary, so make sure that you save your work before anything else.

Start menu fixes included

One of the bugs that Microsoft fixed with this new patch is a problem affecting the Start menu, which sometimes fails to launch correctly in build 9926.

According to the release notes, which you can find in full after the jump, the patch includes “a fix for an issue that could cause the Start Menu to be improperly registered and fail to launch,” as well as improvements that are supposed to increase battery life on tablets.

Internet Explorer has already received its own share of improvements, the company claims, as the released bulletin also comes with “a fix for an issue that could cause a delay when opening a new tab in the browser.”

A new Windows 10 build is expected to be released in early February, most likely together with the new Windows 10 for Phones technical preview that allows users to try out the early bits of the new operating system on smartphones.

At this point, there are no details regarding this new build, but it should include visual tweaks such as Start menu transparency and other desktop refinements.
