These updates are meant to address specific issues

Microsoft already introduced the next update for Nokia Lumia smartphones earlier this month, but the latest update, Lumia Cyan, has yet to make its way to all compatible devices.

Dubbed Lumia Denim, the next update will be exclusively available on Nokia Lumia smartphones. It will be released for Nokia Lumia 930, Nokia Lumia Icon and Nokia Lumia 1520 soon, while the rest of the compatible devices will start getting it in early Q1 2015.

The good news is that Microsoft plans to roll out more updates for devices that have been upgraded to Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview.

According to Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore, the company’s engineers hope to finalize some updates to Developer Preview this week. This means that if everything goes well, new Windows Phone updates might be deployed within the next few days.

These updates are supposed to hit different smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview builds. They will address some of the bugs brought in by previous updates, so expect a lot of fixes for issues that have been reported in the past.

Storage install issues will be addressed in these updates

Problems with storage install are likely to be addressed in these Windows Phone updates too, but they will also add HTC support, whatever that may mean. It may have something to do with the fact that the Verizon HTC 8X smartphone is supposed to receive the Windows Phone 8.1 platform late next month.

Given the fact that carrier-branded smartphones usually get software updates slightly later than unlocked versions, we expect Windows Phone 8.1 for the HTC 8X to arrive a few weeks earlier than Verizon’s version.

In the same piece of news, Microsoft also plans to ramp-up the rollout of the Lumia Cyan update for those Nokia Lumia smartphones that haven’t gotten it yet, but it’s unclear to what extent.

Microsoft has already announced it has started the rollout of the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 for Nokia Lumia 930 this week and that it will be available on all devices regardless of whether or not they run Developer Preview builds.

We expect more details on the upcoming updates for Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview to be available in the next couple of days.

Hopefully, Belfiore’s words will become reality and these updates will arrive sooner rather than later, as the numerous bugs and issues that plague some of the devices running Developer Preview are really annoying. We will keep an eye out for more info on the matter, so stay tuned.
