In addition to Windows 10, Microsoft is also working on the new version of Office that would bring a wide range of improvements on all supported platforms, including the desktop.

Simply called Office 2016, the new version of the productivity suite for the Windows desktop is already in development, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that a recently compiled build has already been leaked.

While we can't provide any download links for this leaked build, Microsoft Office 2016 February Technical Preview is available in a plethora of languages, including the usual English and Spanish. The version number is 16.0.3823.1005.

Right now, it appears that an Office 365 subscription isn't needed to activate it, and you should be able to do that with just a few tweaks that Microsoft doesn't obviously approve. In the end, this is just a technical preview build and shouldn't be used as you daily driver because bugs and performance issues are things that should be expected.

What's new

Right now, it seems that the new technical preview build of Office 2016 doesn't come with too many big changes, and Microsoft most likely focused on improving the productivity suite under the hood, in order to cut down the number of bugs and issues that might lead to crashes and other performance errors.

In addition to the dark theme that was already spotted in the previous builds, this new version comes with themes that change their colors based on the application you launch.

For example, Microsoft Word now features a blue theme, PowerPoint comes with a red one, whereas Excel boasts the traditional green theme that's also being used for its icon.

Obviously, keep in mind that this is just a leaked version of Microsoft Office 2016, so in case you come across any bugs or issues, Microsoft won't help you fix them.

The full version of Office 2016 is expected to launch later this year, and Microsoft promised to offer more details in the coming months.

Update: Microsoft has just announced that the Office 2016 Preview is now up for grabs for everyone from Microsoft Connect.
