Microsoft rolls out second app for Apple’s wearable

Back in late 2014, Microsoft finally released a version of Office for iOS that unified user experiences across all devices - big or small - thus opening the door to free editing and content creation, without the need of having an Office 365 account at your disposal.

Previously, there were two separate versions of Office for iOS devices: Office Mobile for iPhone, which had a lot of flaws, and the Word, Excel and PowerPoint Suite for iPad. So in November of last year, Microsoft took it upon itself to unify the experience across all iOS devices, as well as to introduce a preview version for Office apps on Android tablets.

Well, this week brings us another piece of good news related to the Office suite, as Microsoft has rolled out an update for its iOS host, which brings an interesting development to the table.

While Word and Excel were updated with mostly bug fixes and performance improvements, it’s the PowerPoint app that’s getting the most exciting addition.

Microsoft embraces the Apple Watch yet again

Microsoft has added to the PowerPoint app support for the Apple Watch. So with the new PowerPoint Remote for Android Watch, users can control the slides shown on the iPhone from their wrist.

Starting the slideshow is a pretty easy task, and so is navigating to the next and previous slides. At a glance, users will also be able to see the elapsed time, the current slide number, and the total number of slides.

It’s also worth mentioning that Excel has also been granted a new function, that of creating and editing comments in worksheets on the iPhone.

This is the second app for the Apple Watch released by Microsoft, following the update of its OneDrive cloud storage app, which gives users the option of browsing images even as their iPhone is out of reach.

The two updates clearly show Microsoft’s commitment to iOS and Apple’s new fancy Watch, even if the gizmo hasn’t even been out for very long.

Redmond was quick to support Google’s Android Wear smartwatch platform last year, and it seems that it’s ready to do the same for the Apple Watch.

And we expect to see Microsoft release more updates affecting the Apple Watch in the upcoming weeks.
