The firmware update becomes available for more users

The Lumia Denim firmware update rollout started yesterday in China, and it appears that Microsoft is making the new version available to more devices worldwide, so some Windows Phones in Europe and India are also getting it as we speak.

And still, not everyone receives Lumia Denim these days, as Microsoft is apparently more focused on updating the most popular phone models on the market and only then do the same for the rest of the lineup, which obviously creates some frustration for flagship phone owners.

At this point, Lumia 520 owners appear to be among the luckiest overall because this particular device is getting the Denim treatment in several European countries. You can check the full list of the latest firmware version available, based on your phone, country, and carrier, on Microsoft’s website.

European countries getting Denim

In addition to India, several countries in Europe are also receiving the Denim update, including Bulgaria, Croatia, and Italy.

Lumia 520 owners in Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Hungary, and Macedonia are all getting the new firmware version too.

In case you have a Lumia 930 or 1520, which are basically Microsoft’s flagships right now, there’s no need to check for updates right now, because no European country is getting the Denim update for these two high-end models at this point.

New features in Denim

Lumia Denim comes with several improvements, most of them aimed at the camera, thus improving the overall quality of the photos, while also making the whole process faster and snappier.

According to Nokia’s very own release notes, Lumia Denim also comes with Moment Capture, a new feature that improves the way you record videos with your phones.

“A long press of the camera button starts 4K-quality video recording at 24 FPS. With each frame at 8.3 megapixels, you can save individual frames as high quality still images,” Nokia says.

At the same time, Lumia Denim also includes “Hey Cortana” activation, which basically allows Windows Phone owners to launch the digital assistant without touching their devices. This obviously comes in handy when trying to set up reminders and performing a number of tasks with the help of Cortana, even though the phone is not near.

We’ve reached out to Microsoft for more information on the Denim release, but given the fact that it’s now becoming available in more countries worldwide, expect it to be released to flagships as well in the coming days, no matter the carrier.
