Microsoft has just announced the brand new Lumia 640 at MWC 2015, thus adding a brand new device to its lineup of phones supposed to compete against affordable Android devices in emerging markets.

The Lumia 640 was designed from the very beginning to be affordable, so its technical specifications aren't really outstanding, but they're decent enough to offer better value for the price than Android devices available in the same range do.

5-inch display and 2500 mAh battery

First and foremost, the Lumia 640 comes with a 5-inch display and will be available in two different versions, 3G and LTE, with prices to vary by the model you choose.

In addition, the new device features an 8-megapixel camera with wide angle lens and 8 GB of storage, while additional space is offered via support for microSD cards.

The new Lumia 640 will go on sale in several color versions, including cyan, black, white, and orange, and will come in both single-SIM and dual-SIM models.

Pricing will start at €139 ($155) for the 3G version and at €159 ($175) for the LTE flavor, with sales to begin across the world next month.

The Lumia 640 will be shipped from the very beginning with Windows Phone 8.1, but the device will be fully upgradeable to Windows 10 for phones when the new OS becomes available.

The company hasn't said anything about the available RAM, but expect it to have at least 1 GB in order to be capable of running Windows 10 for phones flawlessly, as 512 MB devices might lack a number of features because of their limited hardware capabilities.

The device will also ship with a one-year subscription for Office 365, and once upgraded to Windows 10, it will have access to the latest version of Office Touch, that will be pre-installed on all smartphones running the new OS.
