As expected, Microsoft has just launched the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL in India. One of the largest smartphones markets in the world, India has the highest respect for the Nokia brand.

Since Nokia mobile division has been acquired by Microsoft, fans of the Finnish company had to switch sides if they wanted to own a new handset branded with the Nokia name.

However, this has changed in the last couple of months since all Lumia smartphones will now bear Microsoft's name instead of Nokia's. Nevertheless, the cheapest Windows Phone launched by Microsoft in India are selling pretty well if they are priced accordingly.

Speaking of which, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL will be available for purchase in India for Rs 11,999 ($190 / €175) and Rs 15,799 ($255 / €235), respectively.

They will be available via Microsoft's online store and through Indian retailer Flipkart. It's also worth mentioning that both smartphones come with free one-year Office 365 subscription.

Both smartphones ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2

Moving on to specs, the cheapest of the two, Lumia 640 is equipped with a 5-inch IPS ClearBlack display that supports HD (720p) resolution, as well as Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

On the inside, the smartphone is packed with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, an Adreno 305 graphics processing unit, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

The Lumia 640 supports dual-SIM and features microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB). There's also an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a much lower 1-megapixel photo snapper in the front.

The second smartphone introduced in India, the Lumia 640 XL comes with a much larger 5.7-inch IPS ClearBlack display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL is powered by a similar 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.

However, the handset boasts a much better 13-megapixel camera on the back and an improved 5-megapixel camera in the front.
