It always comes down to a single bug that needs to be fixed

Microsoft announced the list of devices that would be supported in the next Windows 10 for phones preview release, but shockingly, Lumia 930, which was, is, and will remain the company's 5-inch flagship, is nowhere to be found on that list.

Needless to say, this news annoys many 930 owners, especially because they had high expectations from a device that's still a flagship, but Microsoft has a good reason for keeping the 5-incher away from Windows 10 for the time being.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, says that the development team has recently come across a bug that's unique to Lumia 930, so until they manage to find a fix for this particular issue, the device cannot run Windows 10 for phones preview.

First, it was partition stitching and now there's this new bug that only exists on Lumia 930, so if you were hoping to get Windows 10 on your flagship Windows Phone device, you're out of luck.

The other flagship gets it

Luckily, while the Lumia 930 won't get the Windows 10 treatment for now, the other flagship currently in Microsoft's lineup will be supported in the next release.

Lumia 1520 can be updated to Windows 10 for phones preview when the upcoming build is released, Aul confirms, and so can the affordable Lumia 520, which continues to be the world's number one Windows Phone model.

Unfortunately, Lumia 930 owners might have to wait another full month to get Windows 10, as Microsoft previously pledged to release at least one build every 30 days, but the rollout still doesn't seem to happen at a faster pace. So if the Lumia 930 has any chance to be supported in the next Windows 10 build coming after the one in early March, don't expect to get it sooner than April. If we're lucky.

As a general recommendation, Lumia 930 owners should stay away from hacks that could get Windows 10 previews running on their devices because the bug that Microsoft has come across appears to be really serious, so turning to unofficial install methods could brick your phones.
