Microsoft is announcing that it is aiming to celebrate the fact that 25 years have passed since Solitaire was first introduced by running a major new tournament for the game, which will involve both employees from the company and members of the general public.

Starting today, the software giant will run an internal competition between all those interested and will use leaderboards to determine who the best-placed players of the classic experience are.

On Monday, June 5, the rest of the world will be invited to take part in the Microsoft Solitaire tournament hosted inside the title.

The official announcement states, "Play five popular versions of solitaire including the classic Klondike Solitaire. From Klondike to FreeCell to Spider, TriPeaks and Pyramid game modes, you’ll be challenged to bring your best to defeat our best."

Gamers who need to practice can get free access to the Microsoft Solitaire Collection on both the PC and mobile phones.

The company has not yet announced how many employees it will select to face players from all over the world and whether it plans to introduce any prizes in order to make the competition more interesting.

Presumably, more details will be offered ahead of June 5, when the entire world is challenged to take part in the Microsoft Solitaire tournament.

The company has big plans for gaming on both the PC and the Xbox One

For a long time, the software giant was focused on the delivery of video games on the Xbox platform, practically ignoring the PC and the incredible potential to deliver solid experiences.

At the moment, the Xbox One has managed to outsell the PlayStation 4 from Sony for the month of April in the United States.

Microsoft will seek to maintain momentum, and rumors are suggesting that it is planning to introduce new features, including DVR capabilities and more apps.

It also seems that a 1 TB version of the Xbox One will be introduced on June 23, although the price is not known at this point.

When it comes to the PC, the company will add more gaming options and more integration with its home consoles when the new Windows 10 operating system is launched later in the year.
