Microsoft announced a few major apps and services that will be available to all smartphone users regardless of their operating system.

After confirming what we knew all along, the fact that Cortana will arrive on Android and iOS, Microsoft announced a Windows 10 phone companion application.

The “Phone Companion” app is built inside Windows 10 and allows users to connect to their PC no matter what smartphone they own: iPhone, Android phone or Windows phone.

Basically, when you open the Phone Companion application on the PC, you can pick which type of smartphone you want from the ones mentioned.

However, if you use an Android phone or iPhone, you will need to follow some extra steps that will help you connect it to your Windows 10 PC. For those who own Windows phones, the application doesn't require anything and will work right away.

Phone Companion makes all files and content available on both PC and phone. For example, if you correctly setup your OneDrive app on the phone, all photos that you capture will appear automatically in the Photos app on the Windows 10 PC.

Work on your Office documents without moving files around

Moreover, with the Music application, you can store and access all your music from OneDrive on your PC, but also on your iOS or Android, since this is already possible on Windows Phone.

So, when you create new playlists on your Windows 10 PC, they will immediately show up on your Android phone or iPhone and you can play them with a single tap.

But there's more. You can also take notes while on the move. You can take notes on your PC with OneNote, and they will show up on your phone, and vice versa.

Last but not least, users will be able to work on Office documents from any of their devices without having to move them around because they will be synced and accessible via Phone Companion app.
