The game has been initially slated for a Q2 2015 release

It looks like December will be a great month for Metal Gear Solid fans. The successful launch of Ground Zeroes, the prologue for Kojima’s much larger Metal Gear V: The Phantom Pain game, on PC was just a small slice of the cake (a 1-hour-long one).

The cherry on the cake is the fact that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be launched earlier than expected. Although Kojima Productions confirmed a tentative release date for Q2 2015, it looks like fans will be able to continue Snake’s adventures starting February.

The information has been confirmed by the game’s listing on Microsoft Store, PCGameN reports. According to the game’s page on Microsoft Store, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for Xbox One will be released on February 25, 2015.

The game is available for purchase for $59.99 and those who pre-order Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain for Xbox One will also receive a $10 Xbox gift card digital code. This offer is valid until January 31, 2015, while supplies last.

Usually, when a new release date is attached to an upcoming game, it’s usually a place holder that gets changed closer to the actual launch. This is not the case here, as the February 24, 2015 release date has been confirmed by a Microsoft rep as well.

The release date has been confirmed by a Microsoft rep as well

During a conversation with a Metal Gear Solid fan, a Microsoft employee confirmed that this is not a placeholder that The Phantom Pain will indeed release on February 24, 2015.

Additionally, the official release date of the game has been confirmed in several retail stores, but it has yet to be displayed for the public.

Keep in mind that the February 25, 2015 release date is only for the United States. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain may be launched in Europe one day later, though we don’t have any confirmation on this one yet.

Kojima Productions is yet to comment on the new information, but since the February 24, 2015 release date has been confirmed from multiple sources, there’s a high chance that this information is 100% accurate.

Obviously, the game can be delayed by a few weeks, as it happened with quite a few AAA titles this year, but there’s nothing to point to that course of action.

Update: Konami has come forward with an official statement saying that the release date of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain posted on Microsoft Store is just a placeholder and that we shouldn't wait for the game in February.
