It will be a while until everyone is able to purchase it

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is coming to Europe soon, but it would be available for everyone straight away. The latest Ubuntu insider event provided some more information about the impending launch.

Ubuntu users outside of China are still waiting to get their hands on the new Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition and the company has promised to bring those devices over here, but they didn't say who they are going to sell them to. Fortunately, it's not through flash sales like it happened with the BQ phones, but it could be worse.

Companies that release new devices in a market might want to build up the expectation regarding the product. For example, they would only make a small number of them available and check out just how much interest is there. Or they can put an Origami-like animation on the website and let users play with those animations. From time to time, users would get an invitation to buy a phone. It sounds weird, but this is how it's going down.

Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition won't be expensive

The Meizu MX4 phone can be placed in the high-end spectrum of the industry, but it won't be there for much longer. What's certain is that right now it is the most powerful device out there running Ubuntu, but that is likely to change as well.

Canonical organized an event for Ubuntu insiders, and they revealed some information about upcoming phones. One of the announcements was about the new BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition, and another one was about the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition in Europe.

We don't know for certain the release date of this device, but we do know that it will retail at about €299.99 ($331). There is no indication that a phone is being prepared for the North American market, only a few promises that it will happen.
