A rather peculiar image included in a medieval religious manuscript is now making the rounds, and not because people have taken a sudden interest in what our ancestors liked to draw centuries ago.

The reason this image went viral is because the character it depicts looks strikingly similar to Grand Jedi Master Yoda. Truth be told, the resemblance is uncanny.

The image in question, available below, shows an odd-looking creature with spiky hands, pointy ears and dressed in a cloak. What's more, this biblical character doesn't look very tall.

According to DM, the bizarre and quite scary image is included in a retelling of sorts of the story of Samson, a biblical hero gifted by God with incredible strength.

“I'd love to say that it really was Yoda, or was drawn by a medieval time traveler, but it's actually an illustration to the biblical story of Samson,” said British Library curator Julian Harrison.

The manuscript that contains the story and the image of the odd Yoda-like creature that goes with it is known as the Smithfield Decretals. The document is said to date back to the 14th century.

Interestingly, historians are pretty much clueless about what the creature is supposed to represent and why its image was included in this medieval manuscript.
