One of the biggest surprises out of Entertainment Weekly’s reunion issue, out on newsstands this week, was supposed to be the reunion of the cast of “Mean Girls,” which would have been the perfect way to celebrate the movie’s 10th anniversary.

Lohan ruined that surprise a while back, when she tweeted to let the fans know that she was working on a “secret” project with Tina Fey, who wrote the script for the film and also had a role in it.

Even so, seeing the cast together should prove a nice treat for fans of the cult comedy. “Mean Girls” was released in 2004 and is one of the most quoted movies of all times, earning a spot, as EW puts it, in the teen comedy cannon.

Photos and a joint interview, don’t expect another movie

It would be completely unrealistic for you to expect a sequel with the same cast, despite the reunion and even in this current context in which Hollywood seems to be running out of original ideas and finds inspiration in ‘80s and ‘90s classics again.

EW makes that clear from the start: the “reunion” is limited to just a photospread and a joint interview with Lindsay Lohan, Tina Fey, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert. Two of the photos released so far are also available in the gallery below.

In the interview, all the ladies reminisce on what it was like for them to be cast in such a fun movie, how it eventually helped them launch their career because it turned out to be so insanely successful, and the friendships forged on that occasion.

There were some rumors at one point that a “Mean Girls 2” with the same cast was in the works, but they admit that they probably waited too long for this and that window of opportunity has closed.

Lindsay Lohan’s bits in the interview are hilarious

However, the bits from the interview that are getting the most attention online right now are those attributed to Lindsay Lohan. By now, it’s no secret anymore that she has exactly zero credibility in the industry because she’s ruined it by crying “wolf!” too many times when she promised she was serious about work, only to prove just how unprofessional she could be the next day.

So it’s funny to hear her say she was Method acting when she was 17, even if she does it as a joke. Fey recalls Lohan was desperate to find a pair of pink UGGs for one particular scene, to which Lohan adds that this was her way of going Method.

“I had been online trying to get pink Uggs because I had a pink pleated skirt in the scene where I fall into the garbage can. I was like, ‘I need pink Uggs!’ I mean, I was rhinestoning my phone at the time with Swarovski crystals. [Laughs] So it was somewhat Method,” she says.

The next segment of the interview that’s getting Lohan another round of criticism is when she name-drops Mariah Carey, saying that even the diva loved the movie so much that she quotes lines to her whenever they meet.

Apparently, they have the same makeup artist, so when they happen to cross paths, Mimi tells Lohan “On Wednesdays, I wear pink,” because she “loves that movie” this much.

All jokes aside, “Mean Girls” is a cult teen comedy and it still holds its own even after all these years. Lohan was at the peak of her career when it came out, and her performance is on par with the other ladies’.

Too bad she doesn’t understand just how much she lost with her derailed career when she compares hers to the trajectory of the likes of Seyfried and McAdams.
