14 DAY TRIAL // Mariah Carey’s 6-year marriage to Nick Cannon ended in May last year, and since then, we have been treated regularly to reports about her state of mind. Most of these have been negative, with insiders talking about anything from alcohol addiction to depression and a thirst for revenge.
You can add another one to the pile, coming from the February 9 print issue of Star Magazine (story via CB): Mariah may be addicted to Sizzurp.
Vocal problems and budding addiction
Sizzurp is the street name for the drink made from prescription-strength cough syrup with codeine and Mountain Dew or Sprite. Sizzurp abuse has already led to several deaths, especially in those who had mixed it with alcohol.
Star claims that Mariah is never without a glass of wine or champagne in her hand, which is tabloid-speak for an addiction to alcohol.
Apparently, the singer started having vocal issues late last year, right before her much ridiculed performance at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Rockefeller Center. Her microphone feed leaked online, showing that she could barely carry half the notes in her famous “All I Want for Christmas,” which, in turn, made her the topic of nasty jokes online.
Doctors told her to go on complete vocal rest, but she decided that she couldn’t stop “ordering her staff around” or talking to her 2 kids with Nick, so she asked for a prescription instead. They tried to talk her out of it, the report claims.
Mariah is hooked already, probably
Not only did Mariah fill the prescription, but she was back for another one very soon, claiming she’d lost the first prescription before taking the medicine, an insider familiar with the situation says for the tab.
“Mariah’s team was adamantly against it, worried she’d develop a problem,” the tipster dishes. “Needless to say, just days after receiving a prescription, Mariah had her people call a doctor to say she lost her prescription and needed another one. The truth is… she’d already drank all the syrup and wanted more!”
This latest report is in line with older ones that claimed Mariah had turned to alcohol or pills, or a more dangerous combination of the two to cope with the fact that her marriage and her ideal family had bitten the dust, and the realization that her career would never be the same what it once was.
As it happens, this report comes hot on the heels of a video that shows the singer trying, failing and eventually giving up on lip-synching in a special performance that took place in Jamaica, at the 2015 Jazz and Blues Festival.
