Oscar-winner Jared Leto is said to be in the final stages of negotiations to play The Joker in Warner Bros.’ upcoming villain ensemble film, “Suicide Squad,” which is coming out in 2016 and will probably be directed by David Ayer.

When this rumor got out, other names were also thrown in the mix, particularly those of Tom Hardy (believed to reprise his Bane role from Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”), Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Cara Delevingne, who was said to be up for the role of Harley Quinn.

Collider is now saying that production sources confirm that Robbie is locked for a role, but the famous model probably isn’t – because Margot will be playing Harley Quinn. Tough luck for Cara, because she was dying to break into film and this would have been her big chance.

This particular villain first appeared in “Batman: The Animated Series,” and as you might have guessed, she’s The Joker’s girlfriend and accomplice. Originally though, she wasn’t bad: she was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, Harleen Quinzel, before The Joker played dirty tricks with her mind and made her believe she was in love with him.

“Suicide Squad” will focus on a group of villains who are given a second chance to redeem themselves in front of the very people they once tried to kill. It’s part of the superhero cinematic universe Warners is trying to build to rival Marvel’s, and will be the first release to feature villains as main characters.
