BioWare has been focusing on launching Dragon Age: Inquisition for the last few years, but with the project now gold and set to soon be in the hands of gamers, the studio is apparently shifting its focus to the next Mass Effect project, revealing the main developers who will be involved with its development.

In a massive official post on the site, the company explains that the changing landscape of modern gaming means that the project can be ambitious and engaging.

The big surprise is that Chris Schlerf is the lead writer for the new Mass Effect title, after being in charge of Halo 4, another massively successful launch.

He states, “Every day is a revelation and every day I get to play in a new corner of the universe. To be able to look three steps ahead to, ‘Where does this take us and how does it add to the way we look at the Mass Effect trilogy?’ You couldn’t ask for a better playground.”

Schlerf also says that he aims to write the narrative for the title with a focus on the character in order to deliver the kind of experiences that fans have been expecting from the series.

BioWare wants to create an innovative experience

The studio also announces that Chris Wynn is the senior development director for the coming Mass Effect experience, while Fabrice Condominas will be one of the producers.

The pair say that they are aiming to keep the core elements that have made the franchise successful so far, but they also want to take on some risk and introduce innovation that will appeal to modern gamers.

Ian Frazier is the lead designer for the new Mass Effect, and he says, “I’m a huge fan of all things BioWare, and have been since Baldur’s Gate. Mass Effect is my favorite series, so I was extremely excited about it. They could have offered me janitor on this project and I would have taken that.”

Joel MacMillan will fill the art director position, Mac Walters is the creative director and Mike Gamble is another producer, while Yanick Roy, the studio director at BioWare Montreal, will oversee the development process for the new Mass Effect, which will probably not use the number 4 in its name.

The development team has not offered any kind of details on the gameplay or the narrative which will be introduced in the title, but they are suggesting that a limited number of elements from the Commander Shepard saga will be making a return.

No launch date or platforms have been announced so far.
