Exactly one week ago, on March 15, we announced the immediate availability for download and testing of the fourth Preview release of the upcoming Manjaro Linux KDE 0.9.0 computer operating system based on the Arch Linux distribution and using the KDE Plasma 5.2.1 and KDE Applications 14.12.3 technologies.

Today, March 22, the Manjaro development team, through Philip Müller, has announced the release of Manjaro Linux KDE 0.9.0 Pre5 (Preview 5), which also ships with the KDE Plasma 5.2.1 desktop environment, as well as KDE Apps 14.2.3, but includes KDE Frameworks 5.8.0, which fixes several issues with the Oracle VirtualBox and VMWare virtualization software.

“We worked also hard to improve our graphical installer Calamares and our system tools to make the installation and usage of Manjaro as easy and smooth as possible,” says Philip Müller in today’s announcement. “This release comes with KDE Plasma 5.2.1 series, linux319 kernel series and all the usual Manjaro and upstream updates.”

Numerous changes have been implemented in Octopi

In addition to the above, Manjaro Linux KDE 0.9.0 Pre5 includes even more updates to the in-house built Manjaro tools, it now displays EFI mountpoint when creating or editing partitions with the Calamares installer, and adds a great number of changes to the Octopi package manager. The latest Linux 3.19 kernel and the usual Arch Linux upstream updates have also been included.

As usual, all users who want to test the new Preview release of Manjaro Linux KDE 0.9.0 can do so by downloading the Live DVD ISO images for 64 and 32-bit hardware architectures right now from Softpedia. When testing, please keep in mind that the distribution is unstable and it’s not compatible with the VMware and VirtualBox virtualization software.
